At Elite Performance Partners we’re often privileged enough to be invited to speak at a number of events alongside respected leaders from sporting bodies. These are two occasions from April where we were asked to share our unique insights into elite performance.

Recruitment Masterclass in Manchester

The VSI Master’s degree in Sporting Directorship based at the University of Salford provides students with industry-standard preparation for the role of Sport Director. David Slemen and Jenny Monckton of Elite Performance Partners spent two days at Manchester’s MediaCityUK listening to presentations and delivering their own recruitment masterclass.

Tony Faulkner is the Co-Founder of the course, a leading Neuroscientist and Sporting Director himself. He said masterclasses like the one from David are the reason why the course was designed.
He commented: “Most importantly the talk was informative and of great benefit to the students. The content was current and aligned to what the global sport market wants from their strategic leaders.”

Sporting Director is one of the most important roles in modern sport and the Master’s degree qualifies graduates for the position and is tailored to meet the real demands of leading sporting organisations. It covers sports leadership, personal development, masterminding innovation and change, sport governance and best practice. With the course comprising all those areas and being underpinned by the science of performance, it naturally aligns with the insights and expertise provided by Elite Performance Partners.

After leading the lecture, David described the student’s passion and enthusiasm as “infectious”, highlighting that hosting the masterclass actually gave him greater understanding of the topics he discussed. As well as course leaders the students gave positive feedback too.
John Evans said: “David gave a really impressive masterclass that was very informative and enlightening. It left us reflecting on how we do things. Thanks to him and Jenny for coming along.”

People Development in Sport: Virtual Conversations with Leaders

On Thursday 19th April, the Leaders Performance Institute hosted a Virtual Roundtable event on the subject of ‘People Development in Sport’. Our Managing Director, David Slemen, took part in the online meeting and joined an esteemed panel that was made up of respected leaders and coaches working for organisations at the top of football, swimming, cricket and rugby.

David was in conversation with Steven Gunn, Football Operations Manager at Aberdeen Football Club, Gavin Makel, Head of Women’s Football at Manchester City, Norwich City’s Head of Sports Science, Chris Domogalla, The National Talent Manager of the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Alun Powell, Adam Clarke, Head of Performance Services with British Swimming and Ross Stewart, Elite Player Development Group Manager for Northampton Saints.

Topics discussed included investing in staff improvement and overcoming implementation challenges in a pressured performance environment. Leaders is a global network in sport with two clear functional areas: Sport Business and Sport Performance. They connect senior industry leaders and create market intelligence to professionally develop sport on and off the field.

Neill Potts, an Independent Performance Advisor and former Head of Athletic Performance for the Scottish Rugby Union, was part of the event and thanked David for attending on behalf of Elite Performance Partners.
He said: “I really appreciated David’s input. He provided some great insights to enhance the process of people development in sport.”
